The Adventure of Being You

J’accepte la grande aventure d’être moi

I watched this silly movie the other night on Netlfix called “Champagne Problems.” It was predictable, formulaic, and ultimately, very fun.

In one scene, the romantic pair during their “meet cute” is walking up a stairway in a bookstore (which, on a side note, is EXACTLY the type of bookstore I would own and was actually filmed here) and the stairs have the saying:

J’accepte la grande aventure d’être moi.

Which is a quote by the French philosopher and writer, Simone de Beauvoir, and means I accept the great adventure of being me.

I love this quote so much and the idea of embracing one’s life as a grand adventure.

Be the Protagonist In Your Own Story

We named the initial membership at my startup Rêve Health, the “Prologue” because we felt it represented the beginning of the story of you.

Understanding what your body is trying to tell you is so key to revealing this full story: but your story starts the day you decide it starts.

We live our lives, often, as half-lives, only paying attention to the beauty of our existence when our health or actual life is threatened. Most of the time, since we are not in survival mode, we forget…and we drift…and we sometimes just barely exist.

Last week I fell and slipped and my entire body landed on an exposed gigantic–like the width of 3 thighs–root. WHAM, and I was out, the wind completely knocked out of me.

In the past week everything, from walking my dog, to navigating stairs, to taking a shower has been met with pain. I’ve had worse pain before, after my surgeries, but how quickly I forgot.

The thing is, we do forget. We all forget about the meaning of our lives on a day to day basis. We have to purposely remind ourselves. That’s where the idea of treating your life like an adventure comes in.

Imagine Each Day is a Chapter in a Story

Imagine if every day of your life was a chapter in a story.

What a truly boring chapter it would be if all it contained was you going through your daily motions.

You wake up and prepare your coffee and you walk the dog and you shower and brush your hair, and button your shirt and choose your pants…

But what if even doing this was infused with more color and description..and imagination? Imagine you are the center of a choose your own adventure novel. The greatest power you have is choice.

Imagine today you stop and you look at the books in one of those little lending libraries and you see something that calls to you…like a recipe book, and you choose to make a recipe from the book that day.

Every single day or part of your day can be an adventure if you chose to look at it that way.

What adventure is in store for you today? What story are you writing for yourself today?
